I'd say manuals are better for fuel. You just get more control, plain and simple.

We are a 215 truck fleet. We have been buying autoshifts since 2019. This year I reverted to 25 per cent auto shift for the drivers that insist or prefer. Changing back to 75 per cent manual. Reason break downs caused by auto shift failures, high maintenance cost, loss of flexibility and control, short life compared to manual. Autoshift not for me at all.
